Packaging is deeply unified with our routine lives. Every thing we use comes in various types of packaging. All our household products, groceries, stationary items etc, are sold in different types of packaging. All these things are packed in various kind of packaging like containers, blister packs, bottles, cans, envelopes, pallets, wrappers cartons, plastic bags etc. Packaging facilitates the distribution, handling, sale and display of the products. Big articles are generally packed in cartons, whereas eatable are packed in containers or plastic bags. There are various materials used for packaging which depends on versatile requirements of packaging. Few commonly used packaging materials are plastic, paper, cardboard etc. Although, nowadays plastic is much in trend for but still paper is more preferred for packaging. Paper is an easily available material which makes the packaging more cost effective. Paper packaging is much safe as they do not contain any chemical. Paper is most eco friendly material for packaging. Furthermore, paper is an easily recyclable material.
Significance of Packaging
• For Safety
Packaging ensures the safety of articles. Just imagine if an article is not packed well, would you prefer to buy that. No, because dust, water, pollution etc., not only spoil the outer surface of products but they also affect the durability and efficiency. Apart from this packaging protects the goods from fluctuation of temperature and shocks. Properly done packaging also protect the things from, scratches and rugs.
• For Accumulation
Packaging is also important for efficient accumulation of objects. Especially for tiny things a proper packaging is very much required. Packaging also smoothen the handling of things. It is always easier to hold a single box or bag rather than a loose bunch of goods.
• To Convey Important Information
Packaging does not refer to simply wrapping of the product; it is also a mode of communication between principal manufacturer and consumer, as it contains important information about the product placed inside. At a glance, consumer gets the all information about its contents, ingredients, manufacturing date, expiry date, weight and quantity etc.
• For Brand Promotion
In a way packaging acts as a mirror for its content. The products are usually recognized by their packaging. The labels and brand logos are clearly visible on packaging and somehow the product is also promoted by packaging. Nowadays, manufacturers laid special emphasis on packaging and try to make it optimally eye catching.
That’s not all the signs marked on packaging also indicates the nature of article and tells that how it has to be handled. For example, on packaging of glasswares or delicate items, there is a standardized symbol which indicates that it has to be handled with care. The articles which may spoil with interaction of water are packed in special packaging where a mark of umbrella shows that it should be kept away from water. Packaging also improves the security and authenticity of contents. One of a kind seals, labels and tags, logos etc., ensure the quality of products placed inside. Lastly, we can say that packaging is nowhere less important than manufacturing as bit carelessness in packaging may lead to great loss.
