IR is an acronym of Indian Railways. It is one of the largest & busiest train services in the world. Indian railway is quite different from any other governmental department. Therefore, on the recommendation of Acworth committee, 1924, it has to present separate rail budget in the parliament two days before the union budget. Although railway minister present separate rail budget but the finance minister shows all its expenditure & revenue in union budget.

The railway budget basically deals with the modernization of trains & its route, affordable tariff for freight, and of course with passengers. For making the journey convenient, ministry of railway keeps vigil on services and facility & work for improvisation of concerned areas.

Most of the time, it happened that Indian railways faced financial crisis & therefore, it was very difficult task to maintain every aspect of it. But after a long time, due to the efficient & successful policy of railway board headed by railway minister got many achievements such as Freight earnings, passenger earnings & other coaching earnings increased 10%, 7%, and 19% respectively. So, this was an outcome of balanced rail budget & proper functioning.
